Really nice …first time watching on u tube love the shop
A better blade than Buck, Case, Schrade or Gerber have made in 40 years.
What type of steel are files generally made of?
What is wrong with your helper, he seems kind of fearful? Did you drop a hammer on his foot?
My 2x42 Grizzly -T32459 - blue magic smoke from the motor at 3 months old. One call to tech support and 10 minutes later a new motor is on the way. Got it 4 days later. That's a 228 dollar replacement part for a 299 dollar piece of equipment. Yeah, I have skills and can replace it (and did, took 20 minutes) and Yeah, I'll buy it again.
Good video just forge kinda knocks u outta the audio section about at 3/4 mark, but love your honesty about this forge not many around, thanks for the video will check some others that you have. Thank you
Very nice KATANA. 👍💯💯🇨🇦
Good work on vid I watched the full vid great personalty.
“The metric system is the tool of the devil” amen brother amen
The real reason a black smith keeps striking with the hammer is to make the boss think he is still working. 😀 (The boss -of course, is the person cooking dinner.)
Dude I’m a 70 year old carpenter, back then you were a carpenter who built sash windows and doors with a miter box that you made yourself and fine fit with a block plane and chisel.when I can make metal sharp by hand that’s a gift, thank you for the inspiration.CHEERS
Great video, and beautiful work. True craftsman. God bless. Work safe.
Pretty shitty considering 90% of the work was done already... 😅
You took a line from another channel. SMH come up with ur own lines 🤦🏻
Awesome blade and sorry for your loss
Replacing the drive wheel with a smaller 4" wheel will mitigate the motor power issue. Every machine built is a compromise of design elements & component selections normally to meet a price point. There is a way to break every knife ever made & a way to break every electric motor ever made.
Aside from making damascus patterns but i want to give info for those who think its good when you make layers for your ingot. If you are layering your carbon steel when you already have great quality material is only going to make more shit sword in the end, by introducing impurities between layers and using technique for japanese heterogen ore is not good idea. Layers for katanas are made for ridding that shit ore they had and trying to get most homogenic micro sturcture for your metal.
Beautiful work
This was a great tutorial, I just ordered this unit directly b4 I watched, and am brand new to the "Game" lol I have the Harbor Freight 1 x 30 and Im pretty sure everything you mentioned is exactly how Im starting off!! Anyway I think your Humbleness to how you started and how each piece you got "made and paid" for your next upgrade was a great lesson for a lot of us just starting plus (Imo your humbleness and probably a lot of your skill and craftsmanship) come from modest roots. Thank you for making that one of the most enjoyable as well as informative videos Ive watched
I'm just getting started on bladesmithing; the first knife I'm making for myself is an old leaf spring. But, I want to make a rr knife for my employee who manages the office on "forge-day" for her to wear as a utility knife when she's riding / working on / working w/ her horses. Is it worth trying to put a handle on one, since there's a chance she's going to be using this in the cold?
Grizzly solved the motor problems on the late models and other minor issues they do not mention. Also from today until Agust the 19th this grinders are on special sale at $270.oo plus $30 shipping. So for $300,00 the unit will be delivered to you in the U.S. Too bad I ordered one just 4 days ago. Did cost $335 with shipping and taxes.. Hope this info helps someone.
Should have been a patron last year… god da*n it. That thing is friggin sweet
What a very informative video. I’ve been interested in trying out blacksmithing for a while now and I finally took my first step. I ordered this anvil for just under $70 delivered to my house free. I can’t wait to see how it performs.
I love that thing. I wish I'd seen this 2 years ago. i'd have bought all the tickets lol
23/32 of a hamburger! I almost choked on my red crayons!
What was the 2x72 grinder you were using to flatten??
Housemade revolution 2x72 with a surface grinding attachment
@@OldHickoryForge thanks man
How can I buy one of these ?
Щит то зачем? Арбуз не ударит!
I seem to be missing something. while i understand cutting, drilling, and forming, when the cast material goes up into the steel body of the burner and it far does it go? Does it touch the bent flat metal with all the holes inside the steel body or is there a space and how much space is needed?
Where did you get the book from
Amazon
Can we get a multi part in depth Bowie build?
How much was the power hammer
About 4 grand but I also didn't have to pay for shipping and this was a couple years ago so it's probably more now
Beautiful sword
This has been the coolest UA-cam video I have ever seen. Your attention to detail was refreshing. The most amazing sword I have ever seen. Major kudos brother
It may not have turned out the way you imagined it to be but, since it was your first try, it still turned out great! And I'm sure you learned a lot, and how to improve it in the future! Pat yourself on the back for a job well done! 🤔😱👍
I’m going to get something from you other than hammers one day homie, I figure if I buy a hatchet I’ll camp more. 😂
Ok I have question for you. Did you flatten out and or sand down the surfaces before you forged welded them together? Thanks
That would probably been a Norseman's prize possession. Always enjoy your videos. Cheers mate.
Uhhhh. Excuse me, but a kaytayna CAN chop through a tank. Have you watched ZERO anime? Jeez. (THIS IS A JOKE)
Haha, 'Metric measurements are the tool of the devil'! So funny! I was born in the mid 1970s in the UK, and by the time I was at school, Metric was the way......However, metal and woodworking wasn't taught at school, I learned woodworking from my Dad, who was a child of the 1940s, so I learned feet and inches from him....And mountain navigation......I then learned navigation from the Army in Metric, so I work in a really confused mix of metric AND Imperial. Somewhere may well be 2 miles 300 Metres away......A car may be 9ft 16cm long. Works for me even if it doens't work for anyone else. Stunningly beautiful sword! Truly a piece of work to be proud of!
The tree bro, can't you just put up a board to throw at
I like that you made the blade with a slight curve thats barely noticeable, versus the more often seen pronounced curve... way cool. ;}
I friggin LOVE a good magdrill… don’t often do much ironwork these days, but I still want one….
Made one a few years (more than 40) ago, and heli-arked some hard face rod on the edge after profiling. Held a Good edge...! Had a 61 RC Hardness! (Yes, I'm "Old School"...! That's before they started calling it TIG Welding!). Lol
I was looking at this drill the other day for a future project. Thanks for taking the time to film it.
Have all the parts cut and ready to weld...using a treadmill motor with the speed control and it is also a 2.25 hp motor which will grind through anything. Had to watch the video about a hundred times to make sure I was doing it right😂. Thanks a lot man and this will be huge to my little knife making shop.
should have posted this short on Sunday cause it's so holey
Beautiful sword sir!
I bought one not to long ago, how and why did I wait so long
